Toxins Everywhere? Here’s How to Reduce Them in 4 Easy Steps
/In this day and age, we are being bombarded with toxins everywhere and reducing them can feel extremely overwhelming. Where do you even start? Is there any point?!
Unfortunately, I don’t think that we can ever truly be toxin free. But the toxins that we put in to our bodies every day can accumulate and we can absolutely decrease this exposure. It’s important to start with the things that we use every day (think of these as the big ticket items) and we can approach these one step at a time.
Here are the four categories to start with with you begin your lowtox journey:
Food and supplements. Most of us eat at least three times per day and also take supplements to improve our health. But if we are eating micro plastics and pesticides in our food and supplements, it may be doing more harm than good. To decrease your toxin consumption, try to lessen the amount of processed food and stick to whole foods. Choose organic when possible and don’t wrap your produce in plastic. Also, try to purchase supplements that are made from real food and are in compostable packaging (like the ones that I get from Purium. Discount code: happyhealinvegan).
Air. We obviously all need air to live but what if I told you that the air inside is more toxic than the air outdoors? To improve air quality, try to leave your windows open year round. And use air filters in the common areas and bedrooms. Also, stay away from candles and air fresheners. Use essential oils instead.
Water. Our bodies are made up of 70% + water and we use it for everything: hydration, brushing our teeth, washing the dishes, for our pets, to wash our clothes. Water can be the most toxic thing that we put in our bodies, containing chlorine, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and more (see my recent blog post all about water). It is important to have a high quality water filter, preferably not housed in plastic.
Bath and Beauty Products. Our skin is our largest organ and what we put on it gets absorbed into our bloodstream within seconds. The easiest way to find cleaner products is to visit apps like EWG, ThinkDirty or Yuka.
